I generally don't give my images titles beyond a description of the subject and area but I felt this Snow Gum (Eucalyptus pauciflora) growing on flanks of Mount Howitt was worthy of the title, "The Survivor".
Since 2003 two major and several small fires have severely
impacted the Australian Alps, with many majestic old Snow Gums being killed in the fires. Although Snow Gums do have the ability to regenerate after fire by means of epicormic shoots from under their bark, repeated burning can kill the trees.
